Join us for an engaging agenda to learn how to help family members interact and support behavioral changes, especially during times of reduced staff, stress and isolation.  We will also be having a candid conversation with Alzheimer’s Association professionals to share ideas to better serve the community.

Upon completion of this program, you should be able to: 

  • Describe strategies to support and have meaningful engagement with people with dementia, 
  • Identify approaches to employment stress that can impact our interactions with the person with dementia and their loves ones. 
  • Define how we as professionals can effectively play the role of care-partner, teacher and support system.
  • Outline how the Alzheimer’s Association can help the community in their real-life issues that they face in regards to memory loss.

Faculty:

Alzheimer’s Association professionals will lead a session to discuss the needs and gaps as well as the opportunities for their support of communities in the southern Illinois area. 

 

Rachelle Blough CTRS, CDP, CADDP, is the VP of Corporate Training at National Council for Certified Dementia Practitioners.  Rachelle has worked in senior living since 1995. Rachelle is a Certified Recreational Therapist, a Certified Dementia Practitioner and a Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer and serves as Vice President of Corporate Training for the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) Most recently she has served an independent consultant for senior living specializing in memory care and life enrichment areas supporting clients across the North America Prior to that Rachelle has held positions in communities, regional and national roles in senior living. She enjoys providing resources and education that can improve the way we support our elders living in senior care settings.

 

Leslie Pedtke, MHA, LNHA is currently the owner and founder of Dignity Quotient a long-term care consulting company and Trenton Village Assisted Living and Memory Care – King Management Company. She is a national speaker on dementia, culture change and workforce development as well as an adjunct instructor for Southern Illinois University Carbondale and Maryville University of St. Louis.  Leslie is the author of  What Living as a Resident Can Teach Long-Term Care Staff: The Power of Empathy to Transform Care, which was released in October, 2017 and is a teaching tool for long term care professionals, families and students.  Leslie was recently the owner of three skilled and two other assisted living communities. From 1994-2017 she was the Administrator of Aviston Countryside Manor. Through this experience, she has built a foundation of person directed care. She has been a board member of the Illinois Pioneer Coalition since 2010 in which she has served as the summit coordinator, Vice-President and President. She graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Communication and Maryville University with a Master’s in Health Administration.

Registration:

Seats are  limited so early registration is recommended. The registration fee is $49 if received by November 9, 2021. After November 9th, the registration fee is $59. The registration fee includes continuing education credits/units.

Registration of groups of 3 or more receive a discounted rate of $35/per person.   

Healthcare, long term care and similar facilities with same site employees and one site viewing access are eligible for a special rate based on the number of attendees:
Up to 10 participants, the fee is $129,
11-20, the fee is $159,
21-30, the fee is $189.

Reduced rate of $29 is available for CNAs, home care aides, community caregivers, veterans and students.

Cancellation policyFull refund will be provided if cancelled by November 9, 2021.  No refund after November 9th.  You may send a substitute with prior notification.  

Continuing Education Credit: 

A Certificate in Professional Continuing Education for four (4) contact/clock hours total for both sessions will be provided upon completion of registration, full participation and evaluation of the program activities, for the following disciplines:
