Pathways to Positive Dementia Care – 

For Our Team and For Ourselves

Get ready to position yourself and your team for positivity as you care for those with Alzheimer’s or dementia!   This is your opportunity to gain the most up-to-date tools and strategies to support quality care of persons with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia types. Join us for a two day agenda to learn what the latest research is saying about brain health, when frailty and dementia can be treated and prevented, how to make meaningful connections with music, and who can instill purpose and motivation in the person with dementia (hint: everyone).

Upon completion of this program, you should be able to:

  • Identify motivation approaches that are effective through the stages of the disease.
  • Describe the treatment and prevention of frailty in dementia progression.
  • Implement strategies for healthy living to stave off cognitive decline.
  • Define the role of music as a means of connection and mood stabilization.

Faculty:

Steven Fox, DO, is a licensed physician and surgeon in Chicago.  Dr. Fox is the founder of Wellspring Gerontological Services, which provided comprehensive assessment and care management for older adults and persons with disabilities in the Chicago metropolitan area. In 1993, he assisted in the creation of Wellspring Personal Care, a private home care agency which provides certified and trained caregivers in an individual’s home, and continues to serve as a Physician Consultant.  Now in private practice, Dr. Fox conducts assessments of decision-making capacity, functional capacity and individual care needs, applying the osteopathic philosophy and principles of wellness to his practice in geriatrics and disability medicine.

 Jennifer Green, BHS, is the Manager of Education and Community Volunteers for the Quincy Office of the Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer’s Association’s mission is close to her heart as her grandfather had dementia. Jen is passionate about serving her communities to provide support and services to the caregivers and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and all other forms of dementia.

Jami King is a Community Educator with the Alzheimer’s Association Illinois Chapter.  Jami is a family care partner, with experience of two parents with Alzheimer’s/dementia.  She is passionate about helping others to learn about and advocate for people impacted by dementia.   

Tim Wilsey, BS, is a professional musician/historian and performs regularly throughout the Midwest.  In addition, Tim has worked in the Chicagoland senior industry for over 25 years in senior housing and as a consult in business development.  As a professional musician, he performs and works with seniors on a regular basis and runs various drum circles for dementia communities throughout the area.

Registration:

Seats are  limited so early registration is recommended. The registration fee is $49 if received by Octobe 29, 2020. After October 29th, the registration fee is $59. The registration fee includes continuing education credits/units.

Registration of groups of 3 or more receive a discounted rate of $39/per person.   Eligible community caregiver rate is $19.  Special rate for students and veterans, $29. Please call 773-930-3200 for more information.

Cancellation policyFull refund will be provided if cancelled by October 29, 2020.  No refund after October 29th.  You may send a substitute with prior notification. 

 

Continuing Education Credit: 

A Certificate in Professional Continuing Education for four (4) contact/clock hours total for both sessions will be provided upon completion of registration, full participation and evaluation of the program activities, for the following disciplines:
